We’re looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our Marketing team as a Design Apprentice. This is a brilliant opportunity to kickstart your career in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your ideas will be valued and your development supported.
You’ll play a key role in helping us design high-quality documents and materials that support our business development efforts. From pitch documents and proposals to marketing collateral, your work will help us stand out and win new business.
Alongside your role, you’ll study towards a BA (Hons) in Creative and Digital Design, delivered virtually over three years through one of our partner colleges. You’ll gain hands-on experience and develop practical, industry-relevant skills that will shape your future in the creative sector.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing impactful materials – You’ll help create clear, professional, and visually engaging documents that reflect our brand and values.
- Supporting new business activity – You’ll work closely with our New Business and Transaction teams to design proposals and pitch documents that make a strong impression.
- Bringing fresh ideas – You’ll contribute to how we present ourselves, suggesting new ways to communicate our message through design.
- Managing creative assets – You’ll help maintain our library of artwork, templates, and digital content, ensuring everything is up to date and easy to access.
- Staying curious – You’ll keep an eye on trends in digital marketing and design, helping us stay ahead of the curve.
What you’ll learn and develop:
As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll build skills that will become part of your day-to-day role, including:
- Creating eye-catching design concepts and prototypes using industry-standard tools
- Producing production-ready digital media assets such as animations, storyboards, and style guides
- Communicating your design ideas clearly to a range of stakeholders, from marketing directors to sales teams
- Building and maintaining a professional portfolio of your creative work
- Staying up to date with emerging design trends and technologies to keep your work fresh and relevant
The team
With 70 people within our Marketing and Front of House teams, we support on all aspects of marketing and business development across Gateley including internal and external communications, bids and sales, client development, events, digital and marketing projects. Winners of the 2020 Excellence in Sales and Marketing Award at the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Awards and shortlisted in the 2022 Best Marketing Campaign Award at the Managing Partners Forum Awards, the Marketing team at Gateley has more than doubled in size in seven years, reflecting the investment that the business has made in attracting and retaining exceptional marketing talent. We continue to develop and evolve our proposition and are looking for individuals with a 'can do' mentality to join the team.
The person
To be considered, you’ll need to have achieved at least GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 (or equivalent), along with a Level 3 qualification—ideally in a subject related to art or design.

We don’t expect you to know everything on day one. What matters most is your attitude, your willingness to learn, and your passion for design.
This is an office-based role, and the successful candidate will need to attend our Birmingham office at least three days a week throughout the apprenticeship.
