About The Role

The role

Gateley Global is recruiting a Senior Consultant with a strong understanding of economic development, inward investment and public-private sector engagement. This consultant will be responsible for delivering client projects, conducting research and analysis and supporting the design and implementation of projects, bids and strategies. This is a varied role with opportunities to engage clients and the wider Gateley Group.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Focus on internal and external Business Development to win new clients and get more/re-occurring work from existing clients;
  • Conduct research and analysis as required on economic trends, market opportunities and market entry strategies;
  • Identifying appropriate tenders and coordinating a professional response;
  • Support in the preparation and writing of bids, reports and client presentations;
  • Engage with stakeholders (both internal and external) including other Gateley businesses, government agencies, industry bodies and businesses to support project delivery and increase cross-sell into the rest of the group;
  • Contribute to thought leadership content, blogs and whitepapers to raise Gateley Global’s profile as a leader in its field;
  • Strategically identifies further opportunities for Gateley Global or cross-sell opportunities across the wider Gateley Group for both new and existing clients;
  • Pro-actively manages their pipeline and maintains relationship and connections with their clients;
  • Attend relevant industry/networking events as well as support in the organisation of Gateley events as required;
  • Effective use of Professional social media to drive thought leadership and raise the company’s profile internationally;
  • Build a network of Investment Promotion agencies/Economic Development organisations in a target market with a clear intent of supporting their international trade and investment initiatives (delivery of programmes, products or projects);
  • Manage client relationships and look for opportunities to win work from these relationships;
  • Draft proposals and reports required to support project delivery and winning new work;
  • Create presentations to clients or potential clients and/or at events and deliver them;
  • Analyse factors relevant to supporting international investment promotion. agencies in their capability development of their network and sharing commercial insights for the development of policy to attract desired foreign direct investment;
  • Ability to manage time and work within the agreed budget;
  • Ability to conduct relevant and targeted desk-based market, sector, regional and economic research to support client delivery and upskill personal and team knowledge (sharing insights).

  • New market entry, providing corporate consultancy to companies looking to expand into new markets.
  • Project management and delivery of public sector and government funded programmes, delivering business growth, start-up and scale up support and international trade and investment initiatives.

The person
This role is for the position of Senior Consultant within Gateley Global, the role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful economic development projects while growing within a dynamic consultancy and professional services firm.  The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate how they have supported economic development and international growth in previous roles or how their experience translates to economic impact. Experience will have been developed in a range of environments: Private sector, public sector, academia & research, either in the UK or internationally.
 
More specifically applicants will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following areas: 
  • A degree in economics, business, policy or related field;
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in economic development, international trade, investment promotion or consulting;
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in conducting economic research;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly;
  • Experience engaging with public sector bodies and/or private sector stakeholders;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and data analysis tools.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience of working with Freeports, trade zones or special economic zones;
  • Knowledge of government funding programmes and economic incentives;
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping, economic impact modelling or business intelligence tools;
  • Experience in dealing with international markets;
  • Multi-lingual skills.

Travel: This position will be based out of one of the Gateley offices in either London, Birmingham or Manchester depending on the candidate; however, this role may involve travel both within the UK and overseas as required. Applicants must have a valid passport without any restrictions that would prevent travel abroad.
